Our big summer holiday together as a family was a road trip to Bella Coola. It was a long drive!!! Although we knew that before we left it still was very LONG. We divided the drive up and took our time. Mostly driving when the kids could nap or were at least content to sit in their seats. Both Rowan and Fisher travelled so well.
We started the drive towards Kamloops, and camped at Juniper Beach. For anyone wanting to camp next to two high traffic train tracks - this is the place. Rowan loved the trains until the middle of the night when there was one still passing at least once an hour. Oh well... When you aren't use to trains they are loud and so are their whistles!
We drove the next day past Cache Creek, up to Williams Lake and took the turn west for Bella Coola. We camped at a neat place called Bull Canyon where there were neat coloured cliffs and a glacial silt river.
Finally we made the final drive towards Bella Coola, past a lot of cowboy country, a lot of lakes, and finally down a very exciting HILL to Hagensborg where we camped near an old growth trail. It sure felt welcoming to be back down into a valley with friendly coastal mountains, raging rivers and beautiful blue skies!
We toured the wharf, went on hikes, visited a fish hatchery, checked out ALL the playgrounds, and enjoyed camping and all the fun to be had at camp. We could have stayed much longer and look forward to a return trip one day when we can take a boat charter to some remote island hot springs!
The drive home was also rewarding with stops at neat lakes and campgrounds.
